==Personal life==
Brecheen attended [[Southeastern Oklahoma State University]] in [[Durant, Oklahoma|Durant]], until he was elected as the state [[National FFA Organization]] president <ref name=OKLegislature>{{cite web | title=Senate - Oklahoma Legislature| url=http://www.oksenate.gov/Senators/biographies/brecheen_bio.aspx| publisher=Oklahoma State Legislature| page= |accessdate=May 4, 2011}}</ref> in April 1997.<ref name="OklahomaFFA">{{cite web| title=OkFFA-Champions-Josh Brecheen| url=http://okffa.org/champs/champs-brecheen.htm|publisher= Oklahoma FFA| page=| accessdate=May 4, 2011}}</ref> After retiring from the FFA, he graduated from [[Oklahoma State University]] in 2002 with a dual degree in animal science and agricultural communications.

He owns a motivational speaking business, called Brecheen Keynotes and Seminars.<ref name=OKLegislature/>

==Senate career==
Brecheen was elected to the Senate in 2010.

He serves on the Education, Judiciary, Retirement and Insurance, and the Rules committee in the Senate,<ref name=OKLegislature/> as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.

Brecheen has repeatedly introduced legislation into the state house that would promote the teaching of religious views of creation in tax-payer funded public schools.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://ncse.com/news/2014/01/antiscience-bill-oklahoma-0015305|title=Antiscience bill in Oklahoma - NCSE|website=ncse.com|accessdate=30 July 2017}}</ref> These efforts have, to date, been unsuccessful. During the teacher walkouts of April 2018, Breechen introduced an amendment to tax zero-emission industries in order to fund education, rather than taxing oil and gas companies that are well-represented in Oklahoma.
